Spotlight on Hummus

What is Hummus? Only the most popular food to emerge from the Mediterranean and Middle East regions. It is an exotic blend of pureed chickpeas, lemon, sesame tahini, oil, and spices with added flavors such as roasted garlic, roasted red peppers, scallion and dill.

Hummus (pronounced Hum-es) is traditionally used as a dip with Pita bread, crackers or fresh cut veggies. Many people use hummus as a spread on sandwiches (instead of high cholesterol mayonnaise), as a topping on broiled fish or chicken, on baked potatoes instead of sour cream, or as the main ingredient in a vegetarian sandwich.

Hummus contains no saturated fat, no cholesterol or sugars and is high in protein and fiber. Hummus also meets recommended non dairy protein guidlines. Unlike many foods that are good for you, hummus also tastes great. It is a perfect food for anyone who is concerned about eating well or who is on a low cholesterol diet and doesn't want to sacrifice flavor.

Hummus is a healthy alternative to dairy based dips and spreads. It can be used as a spread on sandwiches or a topping on main courses. As an easy snack to prepare and serve, it's a FUN FOOD - Kids love it.

As an appetizer at a restaurant table, a pleasant surprise for an airline traveler, a student's delight in a dining hall, and finally something vegetarian and special on a room service menu, the applications for Hummus are as unlimited as your imagination.

THIS BLOG CAME ABOUT AS A RESULT OF MY LUNCHTIME ENJOYMENT OF THIS VERY FOOD. I THOUGHT I WOULD LOOK UP MORE INFO ON THE SPREAD AND THIS IS WHAT I FOUND. WHO KNEW HUMMUS COULD BE SO EXCITING!!??

Love the hummus! Actually it's GREAT as a sandwich spread like instead of mayo or miracle whip.
