A play on words

The American Dialect Society has chosen "Plutoed" as 2006's Word of the Year. The term officially means "to demote or devalue someone or something." In 2006 a group of international scientists decided that the former planet, Pluto, did not meet the requirements to be deemed a planet.

Other words that were considered include "murse" (a term for a man's purse)-sorry Babe, "flog" (a fake blog that is actually a disguised ad) and "macaca" (an American citizen treated as an alien).

The 117-year-old American Dialect Society comprises linguists, grammarians, historians and independent scholars, among others. Members conduct the vote for fun and not in an official capacity to induct words into the English language.

Personal note: I think the title "grammarian" should be considered-now that is a fun word to say.
