Unfolding my hands

"I want you to be smart in the same way--but for what is right--using everyday adversity to stimulate you to creative survival, to concentrate your attention on the bare essentials, so you'll live, really live, and not complacently just get by on good behavior."
- Luke 16: 8-9 The Message Remix

Wow! What a challenge verse. Here Jesus explains that he doesn't want us to just be "good" law-abiding citizens, but streetwise-knowing how to look after ourselves. Therefore we must be on constant alert, looking for angles, surviving by our wits. Not for rebelliousness sake, but for us to experience the abundant life He says is available. Yet somehow we are brow beaten with the words, "be good," "obey," and "do right." But here, in scripture, we have been invited to a life of adventure in Christ. Not a life of folding our hands in our lap and using the right fork at meals all the time. A life with Christ is a life where even adversity is a catalyst for creativity and ingenuity. How different things look when seen through the lenses of this truth.
